MAG Theatron in an Évian-les-Bains Private Cinema: The Culmination of a Years-Long Search for Perfect Sound
The owner of this private cinema in Évian-les-Bains, France, spent several years working toward its creation. He carefully planned the future room, studied the available solutions, and was especially exacting when it came to selecting the loudspeaker system.
The search proved far more complex than simply comparing specifications. The client auditioned most of the systems on the market suited to a cinema of this caliber. They differed in design, sonic character, scale, and price point, yet none fully convinced him.
That changed after he met the Ocinema team, who introduced him to MAG Theatron. Following extensive comparisons, the Ukrainian system outperformed every other option he had considered and became the acoustic foundation of the future cinema.
A Full Day of Listening at LCAVI
The final decision came after a demanding in-person audition organized by our French partners at LCAVI in their dedicated demonstration cinema.
The session began in the morning and continued through the end of the day. With a media server containing thousands of movies, concert recordings, and music tracks, the client could evaluate the system using material he knew intimately rather than relying only on carefully selected demo clips.
The MAG Theatron demonstration system featured an 11.6.6 configuration:
✔️ 3 × MAG Theatron M15 — Screen channel loudspeakers
✔️ 8 × MAG Theatron S8 — Surround loudspeakers
✔️ 6 × MAG Theatron CSX-6 — In-ceiling loudspeakers
✔️ 6 × MAG Theatron HAMMER-15 — Subwoofers
The owner was particularly impressed by the system’s natural tonal balance, which closely resembled the sound of a premium large-format commercial cinema, as well as its clarity, resolution, and ability to retain impact even at lower playback levels. MAG Theatron delivered convincing scale and cinematic dynamics without requiring constant operation at reference level, while also providing headroom beyond the reach of most competing systems.
A Bespoke Cinema by Ocinema
Ocinema designed a fully custom private cinema for the owner. The client remained involved throughout every stage of the process, reviewing the room architecture, interior design, equipment placement, and overall system concept.
The final MAG configuration includes:
✔️ 3 × MAG Theatron M15 — Screen channel loudspeakers
✔️ 6 × MAG Theatron S8 — Surround loudspeakers
✔️ 4 × MAG Theatron S6 — Dolby Atmos height channel loudspeakers
✔️ 6 × MAG Theatron SBV21 — Subwoofers with 21-inch low-frequency drivers
✔️ 2 × MAG Theatron TQ-8000W — Four-channel DSP amplifiers
✔️ 1 × MAG Theatron TQ-4000W — Four-channel DSP amplifier
✔️ 2 × MAG Cinema AO-6000 — Eight-channel power amplifiers
Processing and control duties fall to a Trinnov Altitude16 with the four-channel expansion. It manages immersive decoding, channel alignment, WaveForming, and final system optimization.
Across the front, the trio of three-way M15 screen channels employs a purpose-designed directivity pattern to project a large, tightly focused soundstage throughout the listening area. The S8 surrounds and S6 height channels complete a cohesive immersive sound field around the audience.
Six powerful SBV21 subwoofers — four at the front of the room and two at the rear — form the uncompromising foundation of the low-frequency system. In a cinema of this scale, the number of subwoofers is not determined solely by the pursuit of maximum sound pressure level. A distributed low-frequency system gives the integrator greater control over the room’s modal behavior, time alignment, and the distribution of bass energy across multiple listening positions.
With six 21-inch systems operating confidently into the infrasonic range, the installation provides the necessary radiating area to produce genuinely palpable bass without forcing any single subwoofer to operate near its limits. The system can reproduce deep low-frequency effects with exceptional dynamics while preserving definition, structure, and control even during the most demanding sequences.
The video system features a 4.5-meter-wide acoustically transparent ADEO screen and an Epson EH-QB1000 laser projector rated at 3,300 lumens.
Final Calibration
The build spanned several months, its timeline stretched by unforeseen delays during the construction phase. Once the installation was finished, the LCAVI team traveled to the site with Alex Garcia of Trinnov for the final calibration.
Particular attention was given to subwoofer integration, timing, channel levels, and the overall coherence of the immersive sound field.
The result exceeded the expectations of everyone involved. The low-frequency system delivered extraordinary scale and visceral impact, while the precise interaction between the screen channel, surround, and height loudspeakers created a convincing three-dimensional sonic environment.
The private cinema in Évian-les-Bains demonstrates how meticulous loudspeaker selection, tailored design, and professional calibration can come together into a complete system without compromise.
